Accessibility & DEI For Students

We recommend students used a variety of job

1. Diversify Your Job Postings: Craft job postings that emphasize qualifications needed for the role. Highlight your commitment to diversity and inclusion, inviting a wider range of applicants to join your team.  

2. Provide Clear Accessibility Information: Transparency is key. Include comprehensive accessibility details in your job posting. 

3. Establish Accommodation Policies: Develop transparent accommodation policies outlining how co-op students can request and receive accommodation. Communicate these policies through various channels and ensure your staff is well informed about the process. 

 4. Embrace Flexible Work Arrangements: Offer flexible options like remote work or adjustable hours to accommodate diverse needs. Adapting to various work styles not only supports students with disabilities but also reflects modern work trends. 

 5. Training and Awareness: Empower employers and supervisors with disability awareness training. Provide them strategies for fostering inclusivity and accessibility, enabling them to better support co-op students.  

6. Mentorship and Support: Assign mentors or buddies to co-op students for guidance throughout their term. This support system is valuable for students with disabilities, fostering a more inclusive and enriching experience.  

7. Collaborate with Accessibility Services: Partner with your institution’s accessibility services department. This collaboration ensures appropriate accommodations and support, facilitating a smoother experience for co-op students.  

DEI

Equitable Selection Procedure:  

Forge an impartial selection process centered on evaluating candidates solely on their qualifications and potential, free from inherent biases. Implement strategies such as blind screening during resume evaluation to eliminate personal information from influencing assessments. 

Comprehensive Onboarding: 

 Deliver a comprehensive orientation program encompassing education on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Develop platforms for students to acquaint themselves with diverse cultures, perspectives, and life journeys.  

Mentorship and Sustenance: 

 Appoint mentors for co-op students hailing from diverse backgrounds, furnishing them with continuous guidance and support. Facilitate periodic interactions for students to articulate their experiences and concerns. 

Varied Assignments:  

Present an array of assignments and projects that acquaint students with different organizational facets. Champion parity in opportunities for learning and advancement. 

Training and Capacity-Building Workshops: 

 Conduct workshops addressing subconscious biases, cultural adaptability, and all-encompassing communication proficiencies. Empower students to collaborate efficiently within diversified teams and communicate effectively with individuals from various backgrounds. 

Employee Resource Cohorts:  

Foster the establishment of employee resource collectives focusing on varied diversity dimensions. Extend participation privileges to co-op students, fostering connections with these groups to nurture a sense of affiliation and inclusivity.
